Labour laws in Canada?

Postby kenway » Tue Jul 31, 2012 1:17 am

My employer scheduled me for a 5.5 hour shift. My employer told us that after 5 consecutive hours of work, we must take an unpaid 30 minute lunch break. I asked my employer if I could just leave after 5 hours of my shift then, since I would only be paid for 5. She told me that I could not take the lunch break at the end of the shift (leaving 30 minutes before the end of the 5.5 hour shift) and had to take it somewhere in the middle. She only wants to do this so that I can cover for my coworkers who are on lunch who have 8 hour shifts. I do not think this is fair. I think it is an easy way for them to have less workers working. Has anyone dealt with this? Can they actually force me not to take the 30 minute break at the end?
