Spectrum, you know your body better than anyone. You realize the difference between "good" and "bad" pain concerning exercise. Your only mistake was believing that this woman was a credible "personal trainer and physical therapist". After you informed her that you' ve just recovered from an abdominal tear as well as having an old back injury, then this unprofessional woman proceeded to give you horrible advice based on her very limited experience. As a result, you received a lump in your back due to swelling from an irritated muscle. Both your doctor and surgeon advised you that this unprofessional "trainer" was practically guilty of malpractice.

You need to get a lawyer and sue this unprofessional woman for malpractice and report her to appropriate medical board in your state. Also, seek monetary compensation for any possible treatment in your recovery. Hopefully, that wretched GYM will be shut down so that no one else may suffer any injuries.

As for your wife, you should remain strong and defend your position about your stance on this alleged personal trainer. Keep reminding your wife that the people at this GYM are only friendly with her because she' s given them over a thousand dollars. Warn your wife that she shouldn' t allow this unprofessional woman or that despicable GYM come between your marriage. You (her husband) comes way before some trainer and a GYM.

Hope this helps. Peace!

Did you ask to see her accreditation's prior to hiring her as a physical therapist? You should never hire anyone without making sure they are licensed to perform something like that. Usually those are posted in the office.

Some PT's do work at gyms. I had PT for months after a car accident a couple years ago, the person was a licensed physical therapist, and we did the therapy at a gym. There were personal trainers there as well.

Even married men have rights. Why do you need a personal trainer? Relax already! To be in the best physical shape does not help you in everyday life. You make too much of it.

That is just it, you answered your own question and posed a conundrum.

You stated there is nothing wrong with my marriage.

Well, this is it. This is what is wrong. Your communication is obviously not working. You are either not saying the right things or not saying anything at all. The very evident situation got worse and you walked away.

Since that is past tense the best thing to do at this moment is to confront your wife how you feel about your personal trainer. Ask her to go to the doctors with you, and be with you in the room, explain the doctor everything you did the trainer told you, once the doctor tells you what you want to hear, she will listen.

When a person gets caught up in something they believe ( in this case personal trainer ), anyone elses word over theirs (in this case yours) becomes nonsense. They see this fit trainer doing these things for many many people, than they see someone trying to correct them, so it becomes obvious to your wife that you know nothing about this and you must of done something wrong.

So, your wife wont listen to you, but she seems to listen to authority, or someone who has a larger understanding of the body. It is best to take her to the doctors with you for a visit, and explain the doctor everything you did. The doctor will most likely remind, you that personal trainers are not licensed physicians or physical therapist. It takes years of schooling and state licensed exams, not to mention at least 180 hours of treating patients before you can attempt physical therapy on a past injury. Physical therapist all over know, you have to work at a steady but inclining pace. Rushing things can make things worse.

I will not tell you to sue your wifes trainer, because I am personally against that sort of thing. I believe a working man should earn his money.
I would however make sure the personal trainer would loose his license. this is a lesson taught.

go to the docs, and get her in with you!

Knowing your body as you do, understanding gyms as you do, understanding therapy as you do... it's a bit bewildering to find that you decided to do exercises you KNEW were wrong for you upon the advice of a
"personal trainer" at your local gym. Because she.... yelled at you? Here's the thing... you now state that you need to sue the gym so you can afford "real" physical therapy but you went to your wife's personal trainer in the first place because you weren't going to have to pay real money for therapy.

I'm sorry you are hurt. You were hurt before you had this experience with your wife's trainer. It just seems like you couldn't afford physical therapy and are now looking for a way for someone else to pick up the bill.

So, you have a sprained, strained, inflamed muscle with swelling. You don't need major medical expenses for this. Take your anti-inflammitories, rest the muscle, do hot and cold compresses until the swelling goes down , then GRADUALLY get back into working out.

The personal trainer was wrong wrong wrong, but you had a choice to stop if you felt she was working you beyond your capacity. It does not seem a reasonable reason to sue. Even a REAL physical therapist can goof. It's your body, and you are the final arbitrator of what you can or should do. Never surrender your own knowledge of your body to someone else.

Since the people at your wife's current gym seem incompetant, suggest to your wife she would be better off at another gym.

You whine and cry about everything being everyone else's fault and how everyone else mistreats you, but I have yet to see you take ANY personal responsibility whatsoever.

I feel sorry for your wife, she married a spoiled brat.
