Out of State Reckless Driving Charge in VA. (Help Please)?

Postby hewlett » Thu Mar 01, 2012 6:17 pm

About a week ago I was driving home from Virginia to Pennsylvania on I-81 and I got pulled over by a virginia state trooper for going 81 in a 60. Instead of getting a speeding ticket I got a court summons and the charge was 'reckless driving - speed' because in VA if you 20+ mph over the limit its considered reckless driving.

After giving me this ticket the Cop said I seemed like a nice kid (Im 18) and said he wouldn't argue dropping the "Reckless" to a normal speeding ticket if I came to court. So I have to drive 4 hours to go to court next week to do this. Ive been reading online people get lawyers for these kinds of charges, but do I really need one if the cop said he wouldn't argue? And can you give me any tips for traffic court? Ive never been to any type of court before and I don't really know what to expect! Your help is appreciated!
