Reckless driving charge?

Postby modraed » Thu Feb 23, 2012 6:29 pm

I'm am 18 years old and live in Tennessee and have a clean as a whistle record except for one speeding ticket. On my way to work I decided to open my car up because I hadn't in a long while and decided it was time to blow the suds out. Well I blew em out all right, right past a state trooper who clocked me doing 107 in a 55. I was arrested and took to jail, made bond and attended court the following day for my araignment (I know that's gotta be spelled wrong) and have my court date set for April the tenth. My question is since this is my first offense and I have a clean record, what should I realistically expect?

Reckless driving charge?

You were going 52 miles an hour over the speed limit. You were not just speeding, you were endangering the lives of everyone around you. If you passed a state trooper, then you passed other cars too. It doesn't matter that this was your "first offense". You were ticketed for speeding before.

Expect a very large fine, court costs, and a long suspension on your drivers license. You may also be sentenced to visit the morgue. And attend traffic school, which I suggest you pay attention to. After all of that is taken care of, you will have to pay to get your license reinstated. When you get your next insurance bill, you will also discover a huge increase that will undoubtedly continue until you are 25. That is the realistic expectation.

However, if you get a judge who is fed up with teenagers who think they have no responsibility for their actions, you can also expect 100 hours of community service picking up trash. He might also revoke your drivers license.

Be sure to have someone with you when you go to court, because you are not driving home.
