a 1102 is "Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order" which is 2 points on your license.
a 1180(a) is "Unreasonable/Imprudent Speed"
a 1180(b) is "Speeding" Now depending on how fast you were going, depends on how many points you get.
1 - 10 mph over speed limit is 3 points
11 - 20 mph over speed limit is 4 points
21 - 30 mph over speed limit is 6 points
31 - 40 mph over speed limit is 8 points and a possible suspension
More than 40 mph over speed limit is 11 points and a possible suspension
so they did you a favor and "lowered" the charge to something that gives you less points, which is the 1102.
EDIT: Yes, your insurance will go up, but usually not by much, it IS still a moving violation and 2 points on your license.
If you are convicted of three speeding violations in an 18 month period (calculated by date of conviction), your license will be suspended.
In New York, the Department Of Motor Vehicles will charge a Driver Assessment Fee if you accumulate 6 or more points in an 18 month period calculated by date of violation. The fee is $300.00 ($100 a year for three years). For every point over six, an additional $75.00 is charged. Additionally, an accumulation of 11 or more points in an 18 month period will result in the suspension of a NY driver license. If you are from out of state, NY will transmit convictions to your home state and you may be assessed points on your home state license as well.
