What are the consequences for a reckless driving ticket?

Today, I got pull over by a cop who got me going "88" at a "45" zone. I was running late for a job interview, and I didn't thought I was going that fast. The cop pull me over and told me I could go to jail, he got my info, and went back to do paper work for the ticket I assumed. He told me he wasn't going to arrest me, since I had a clean criminal record and it was my first offense.He gave me a paper and told me I needed to go to court because of the offense. I have never gotten into trouble like that with the police and always try to abide the laws. My criminal record is clean, I only have a few traffic tickets, but they are mostly non-moving. Like not having my insurance, or licence with me. I'm afraid of what my outcome might be, I don't want to go to jail, or have a bad criminal record. I'm a student, and that's going mess me up when applying to universities. I know, what I did was wrong and I'm never going to speed again. I haven't slept, eat, or even gotten out of my house because I'm so scare, so worry, so depress. I called a local attorney, he told me he was going to take my case and for 750 he was going to try to take care of everything for me. He said I didn't have to go to jail, and that he was going to try to remove the points of my licence, and clear it out of my criminal record. He said something about me going to take a traffic course or something. I don't know if that is possible, I'm afraid he might fail on the case. I'm so nervous, I'm scare, has anyone experience anything similar.

In my state reckless driving is a criminal misdemeanor. A conviction goes on your permanent criminal record. The fine in my state is $1000 and it put 8 points on your license. If you are age 18 or less your license is suspended for 12 months. Jail time is a possibility - but extremely rare.

Naturally your insurance company will freak out and jack up your rates for a few years.

Most colleges and universities don't care if you have a criminal record, they only care about you paying tuition.

also carries the possibilty of a suspension of your license
and huge points on your insurance

I think that police officer just over react and misuse his post, if you want to get out in this matter just go and pay the fine and leave this matter.
