What is the time allowed for a tenant in Wisconsin to have to move out of a rental prop. in an eviction?

Postby shadrach » Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:17 pm

My mother who is 77 was informed today that she has 10 days to out of the house she is renting. Unreasonable, yes but what are her rights. The problem started when she starting dating a gentleman and they decided to get married and move in together at his house with-in the next few months. The landlady got wind of this almost immediatly and became very irate that she would be stuck without a tenant in a winter month. She then informed my mother that she had to be out on the 1st of the month so she can rent to a sincere renter. My mother was going to pay for next months rent to give her some more time to move ( she has a lot to move) she has always paid her rent and has had no prev. problems with the landlady. This is a small community and my mother is not at all malicious...her feelings are hurt!! How much notice, by Wisconsin law, is she supposed to get? She would not be able to do it in 10 days! Please help if you can. Thank-you!

First. You need to look at her lease agreement. She then should have 30 days to move. Nothing less. She can't be evicted unless taken to court and have to go before a judge. Until then, she should be fine. you can find more on the net about rental agreements but i can't find the site. I found this site might help.
