I applied to the Coast Guard and tried to get in. I only met the recruiter face to face 2 times and I took the ASVAB (scored 83 or 84 I think). But I got a call from my recruiter that he saw a post on my facebook (my FB has no privacy settings so everyone can see everything). It was a post about how marijuana laws are absurd and that America wastes too much money and lives enforcing a law that outlaws a drug safer than alcohol (yes I support Ron Paul 2012). Anyway he was greatly offended and acted like I was the worst person in the world he said "your political views are disqualifying for the Coast Guard as we are a federal military and LE agency that specializes in drug enforcement ".
I don't or have never done illegal drugs (I rarely even drink beer, maybe once a month) and have no crime record or medical issues. But I want to know can I apply to another branch? I really want to serve in the military, it has always been a dream of mine. The Army would probably be my next choice as they have some career paths that interest me and I like the projects they do around the world to help struggling counties overcome tyranny. But did my political views really make me disqualified for all military service?
