Do you support the Marijuana reform bill (HR 2306)?

Postby donough » Wed Dec 21, 2011 8:52 am

I say legalize it already. Let the States decide on how to regulate it. The arguments against pot have been around since it was made illegal, and every single claim has been shown to have no merit.

I doubt it is successful though. You legalize pot, you are going to basically kill the lumber industry and alcohol industry. Why drink when you can smoke pot and not suffer hangovers or blood poisoning? Why chop down trees when you can grow hemp at a much faster rate, and it makes a much better paper product? They will be lobbying against this and hard.

I support it. 1: Because alcohol is already legal and its, by far, way more harmful than marijuana. It causes deaths from alcohol poisoning, violent acts, and vehicle accidents. You would have to ingest or smoke a ridiculous amount of pot before overdosing.

2. Its a waste of money locking up people because they smoke it. Also if it was regulated it could be taxed and gangs wouldnt be making all the money.

3.It can replace a lot of addicting medicines that are legal currently.

The sad thing is that it probably wont pass. :(

Does a Bear Poop in the woods? Of course I support this bill . Oh and to the person (bdozen) that made a post about 45% of people supporting Marijuana Reform the actual number is 46% and those were people over the age of 30 polled . So if you were to actually poll everyone over 18 you would probably find at least 70 to 80% support it. Only a few sticks in the mud still hold on to the reefer madness propaganda. Yes stop making it a crime to choose a safer alternative to alcohol.

Oh and bdozen also you say that Marijuana causes harm and that we must scientifically prove it does not. I say you should scientifically prove that it does cause harm. All the studies and data currently available by professional research like Harvard and other research institutions all come to the same conclusion that marijuana causes way less harm than alcohol and the only real harm is minor respitory problems , but that does not occur in people who vaporize or eat it.

All the data indicates that marijuana not only has medical benefits but also is therapeutic as well. As a retired police officer , who would you rather have confront ? A belligerent drunk that is getting all crazy or a peaceful pot smoker on his skateboard just minding his own business?

I support it because I have seen that in other country's (although it's illegal in all but one) that "look the other way" it does not lead to other "harder drugs" it does the opposite it reduces the number of people using the harder drugs used in those countries.

I live in CA and use it as a replacement for my pain medicine and seizure medicine that was about 800 per month now I don't use it daily as I can actually begin rehabilitation of my body now that my mind is clearer, and because of that I'm walking something the Dr's told me i could not do, but I know in time by back will degenerate but at least now I can fight all the way down.

Also God gave us everything on the earth for a reason.

I do think it should follow the same guidelines as alcohol.

As usual those who have an interest in seeing the crap legalized are going to speak up. The 45% figure reflects those who have a vested interest in legalizing the stuff. In reality, if every adult was asked their personal feelings it would no doubt come out against legalizing. As long as you ask a sufficient number of dopers, peddlers and mules you will most likely get numbers favoring your stand.

NO - I would not support legalizing. As a retired police officer I have seen the results of too many people who thought, like you, that it does no harm. Until it can be proven 100% that it does not harm a person then the government should not legalize it. Doing so would make the government a party to the obvious results. Just like the atomic bomb test in Southern Nevada; they did not think they would harm anyone but the government is paying out millions of dollars to people who were even remotely exposed to the tests. Ignorance is bliss - but it can be costly!
