Do you support the reform? What is your best argument for or against the reform? It seems to have a lot of support, not only from over 45% of the American people, but also various law enforcement and medical persons including Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, Veterans For Medical Cannabis Access, American Medical Students Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, etc., etc.
The biggest hurdle appears to be the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Lamar Smith of Texas. He has stated that he will not allow the bill to come up for debate, however, he has already met with large amounts of backlash for his comments. He pulled down his Facebook website (disabling comments), his YouTube account, and his office is no longer answering the phone or accepting faxes.
There is also a large petition movement online. A google search turned of these:
* http://org2.democracyinaction.o)rg/o/...ction_KEY=7331 (from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, LEAP)
* https://secure2.convio.net/dpa/site/...ubsrc=outreach (from Drug Policy Alliance, DPA)
* https://secure2.convio.net/mpp/site/...rAction&id=985 (from Marijuana Policy Project, MPP)
* http://action.cannabispolicyreform.o...?source=062311 (from Coalition for Cannabis Policy Reform, CCPR)
* http://ssdp.org/action/support-feder...a-legalization (from Students for Sensible Drug Policy, SSDP)
* http://www.capwiz.com/norml2/issues/...ertid=50800581 (from National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, NORML)
So it would appear to be heavily supported. Do you agree?
