Is it illegal to have my friends prescription drugs in my car without her presence but with her permission?

I'm in Colorado. My friend forgot her toiletry bag and it contains one controlled substance (class 4 I believe) and two non-controlled prescription-only medications. She had me get her bag but I am worried because it contains the prescriptions. If I am pulled over could I be charged? I do have her permission and I am going to deliver it to her.

I know it doesn't seem like I actually would or should be in trouble, but what I'm really wondering about is actual Colorado law.

Easy solution: Take her bag out of the car and leave it at your place until you make arrangements to give it back to her. That way you won't have the prescription drugs in your car, and the police can't search your place without a warrant.

You could be arrested but you would have an excellent defense.

Yes. You are responsible for all drugs in your vehicle. If you are caught with her prescription without her presence in your vehicle you will be charged for illegal drug possession.

In Colorado, possession (or distribution) of prescription drugs without a prescription or license is a felony punishable by a sentence to the Colorado Department of Corrections.

Saying you have your friend's permission means absolutely nothing. But chances are they won't look for them unless they have reason to suspect that you are hiding something. and even if they do search for them, they may just call your friend to confirm that you are just dropping them off.

If it's for medication and it's prescribed then you are fine. It's medicine. It's not like it's illegal to carry someone's medicine for them. What if they take get it themselves. You may have to prove it though.

DO not stress out or you will inevitably get pulled over. Technically it is illegal, but just deliver the bag and be done with it. Or have her come and get it.
