Law question on slander on facebook?

I'm dating a girl who has kids and an ex husband who is already with another girl, i met the ex but not the girlfriend. My girlfriends daughter has a facebook which is checked to make sure shes not doing anything bad on it but the daughter is friends with the dad and girlfriend. my girlfriend went on it today and the girlfriend wrote stuff about me on her wall on how I'm on welfare and living with my girlfriend, which i am not and that im committing a crime. i work full time and have my own place and never been on any government aid at all!!. my question is can i some how stop this?. we live in the same town and this is all lies and i don't even know her..

You probably can't take any legal action - it's a sort of petty situation, and you'd be thrown out of any court room for waisting their time.

However, there is a "report abuse" button on Facebook. I'd try that. Otherwise, just ignore it, it's just facebook.
