Muslim immigrants in Europe vs. USA: Is the problem the welfare state?

Postby tim » Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:20 pm

I am reading a book written by a danish journalist/politician(from the party Liberal Alliance) on the welfare state in Denmark. He points out how the welfare state has contributed to an increased crime rate, unemployment rate, broken families, and lower work morale.

One chapter is about unemployment rate among immigrants from non-western countries. Non-western immigrants in Denmark have a 41% lower employment rate compared to native Danes, in UK and Sweden the number is about 30%, Germany 21% while its only 10% in Canada and just 4% in USA. Studies done show that Danes are no more discriminating compared to many other countries in Europe. The immigrants are also no less qualified compared natives Danes. Quite the contrary in the USA there is a much larger gap in educational attainment between immigrants and born Americans but they still manage to find employment.

Among afghans, iraqis and somalians more than every second immigrant between the age of 20-59 lives off the government for more than 45 weeks out of the year. Non-western immigrants and their children are also significantly more criminal than the working populaiton and they overrepresented in the welfare offices. The men also commit 36% more crime than men in total. They are left isolated in ghettos where up to 84% are immigrants, where they are taken care off by the government with no social responsibility or discpline and nothing to lose economically (loss of job etc) so commiting crime wont change anything. In Denmark an unemployed industrial worker can keep a compensation rate of 81% of his old salary if you include all the transfer income available compared to only 32% in USA.

While in Denmark the Muslim immigrants make up a larger lower class population this is not the case at all in the United States. Every 3rd Muslim makes more 78,000 a year and among the Moske visiting Muslims that number is about 77,000 yearly. Could it be that Muslim immigrants in USA are too busy working hard, chasing the american dream and taking care of their family, they have too much to lose by falling into crime or even radical Islam?

Your thoughts? Does the welfare state take away people's discipline?

Muslim immigrants in Europe vs. USA: Is the problem the welfare state?

Middle-Eastern Peoples/ Muslims aren't a huge crisis in the USA as it is Europe. As far as I am aware, Middle Eastern people are extremely family-oriented and conservative, and I have yet to see the welfare state (at least for the USA) to be a "dangling carrot" for Muslim immigrants as much as the simple opportunity to suceed in a western nation. Again; I'm speaking from an American standpoint. I have heard from other Scandinavians that their homelands are hardly the "northern white" ethnic centre that they once were.

I can easily say the findings of the journalist from Liberal Alliance for the middle easterns in Denmark is very similar to our current illegal Mexican immigrants and many of the black population here.

Muslim immigrants in Europe vs. USA: Is the problem the welfare state?

Quite obviously, the problem is that a collapsing global capitalist economy cannot provide enough jobs for the working class people who need them.

It has been well documented that Islamic immigrants in nations with a comprehensive social-welfare system consume a much, much larger share of benefits than do natives and immigrants from western nations.

In the USA they don't have that choice. If they won't work they'd better have family members willing to support them because they won't get it from the government.

Most immigrants are simply looking for a way to earn a better life. When they are prohibited from accepting jobs they rely on welfare or crime.

The lowest paid jobs in western Europe and the US are infinitely better than what an immigrant could earn in his/her home country.

You have it backwards.

The muslim immigrants that come to the US have to have a little money just to get here legally ... the green card process is not free. The 3 most common methods of immigration among the muslim population.. 1. student visa (a wealthy family and a college degree) 2. work visa (they will have a good job waiting for them) 3. investment visa (they buy and operate their own business)

Not the kind of situations that sends people to collect welfare. You will see the same results among all groups of LEGAL immigrants in this country.

Compare that to Europe... well they have a very open immigration policy and that is kicking them in the teeth..... the same way our open border with Mexico is hurting us.
