What Do You Consider To Be A Definition Of A Christian?

What Do You Consider To Be A Definition Of A Christian?

Postby emilek17 » Wed Jan 29, 2014 4:34 am

When I was visiting a Methodist discussion group in Tn a few weeks ago, they said that anyone is welcome to their church even if they don't believe in God or the deity of Christ. They said they only requirement is an interest in Christ. I agree with that, but would someone just showing an interest be by definition a Christian or someone with an interest in Christ?

"Don't let non Christians "Poke you with a stick" and get to you Autumn. Most of what they say is really not worth getting upset over. Many refuse to understand or even attempt to be tolerant. "______________________________________________Why every single post. Why can't you just accept the fact you're part of a world of different ideas and beliefs. What Do You Consider To Be A Definition Of A Christian?

None of those religions has a single theology, as I said already. Also, you didn't ask "What does it mean to belong to the Christian religion?", which is a different question entirely. A person can follow Christ and not be religious or even a theist. You might not be of the opinion that such a person is a true Christian. Such a person might have similar doubts about you. Who's to say who's correct? You may think the person to say so is you, but you'd be wrong.   hipnek 19 months ago

What Do You Consider To Be A Definition Of A Christian?

One who believes in christ.I won't - and can't - go any further than that because there are thousands of shades of meaning and belief and religiosity within the people that call themselves christians. There are good christians and bad christians. I'm not going to try to define the difference since it is so subjective. To me, belief in christ is the one common factor. Anything else is just a shade of meaning.   ElBanditoRoso 19 months ago

What Do You Consider To Be A Definition Of A Christian?

Of course not. Shoot, the Pharisees had a huge interest in Christ. "Interest" isn't worship. Jesus clarified it for you: "Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent"(John 6:29). A Christian isn't merely interested in Jesus but BELIEVES Jesus, believes what He said and applies what He said to one's own life and choices(e.g., "I won't go have sex with that entertaining floozy because Jesus told me not to.") What the Methodists mean by "interest in Christ" is 2 things: first and most reasonable is that there's no point in having someone visit your Bible study if he or she is only going to interrupt with ridiculous objections and hatred such as we get here at Askville All. The. Time. The other purpose is that Methodists have liberalizes just about everything that they teach to the point that few to none actually preach the gospel(can't say whether they're better or worse than Episcopalians) and the Methodists don't want someone there actually looking to hear the gospel(because they don't have it.) You, dear , are "interested in Christ." You qualify. But if you want to actually learn about Him, you might need to go elsewhere.   danielpauldavis 19 months ago

>How do you define a Christian? A Christian is someone who calls himself a Christian.>didn't say "curious." They said an interestCurious and interested are synonyms.>Most likely someone just starting to attend a church would not call themselves Christian.Ain't that what I said?   hipnek 19 months ago

To me all should be welcome at a church. How are they going to mature in their faith if you only have the mature there? Few are born again Christian and are "saved". They may attend church...but that doesn't mean they are Christian until they give their life to Christ....do God's will not their own. Real Christians will show love...not rules. A Christian is a follower of Christ. He is their model and philosophy of living. No manmade rules or pretend to follow.   Shasha 19 months ago
