Why does my future mother-in-law hate me?

When I first started dating my fiance, his mother was nice, but he did warn me before I met her that she hates all girls of all ages. I found that pretty strange, but as I met her, I began developing a relationship with her. I spent almost every day at his house and every day she was welcoming. She never gave my boyfriend a curfew and she was always friendly to me. Then last May, we both graduated high school and everything changed. He was never allowed to see me as much as before and when we were allowed to be together, it was a strict curfew of midnight, not a minute later or she would cry. Then she invited me to church to see her two other sons sing and when I went, I was ignored except when she threw a t-shirt at me. Another time I went to a wedding with them and I was ignored by her, but my fiance's dad made a huge effort to talk to me. Anyway, we both went away to college his mom and my fiance got into a huge fight where she said "don't think that damn ***** gives a **** about me" which took us both by surprise because she emphasizes how important being a good Christian person is. Now, we are both home for Christmas break and we have found out many things about her, some very illegal things. My fiance spent the holidays with me and my family and when he came home Christmas Eve with new shoes and a bookbag and his favorite cologne, she immediately went out and bought me a Christmas present from the Dollar Store. I found that odd since she hates me and hasn't talked to me in months. I'm also pregnant and when my fiance told her, she ignored it. My pregnancy is very high-risk and she hasn't once asked how her grandchild is, which hurts us both. Iwonder what I didto make her love me one minute and hate me the next. She cries when her 18 year old son walks the short distance to my house because she won't let him use a car and she cried last night when he fixed his own dinner by himself without her help.

Sounds like she is just sad that her little boy has grown up, 15 years ago I had the same issues your having with my Mother-in-law.(she kicked him out and wouldn't talk to us for almost a year) try not to take it too personally and continue to try to form a relationship with her. Thing will get easier as time goes by she will hopefully begin to accept you. She will come around (and yes it may take until the grandbaby is born for her to realize this) Talk to your fiancee about it as well because you do not want her to try to manipulate him by guilt.
