Why should trial lawyers inhibit Congress from doing tort reform?

Depending on the numbers you use, malpractice insurance costs $100 - $300 billion in insurance and legal costs and "defensive testing" because, as Howard Dean said in a rare moment of honesty, "Congress doesn't want to take on the Trial Lawyers because they are a major "constituency" for the dems...

WTF!!! TRIAL LAWYERS! How about getting the f*cking trial lawyers OUT of legislation!

0bamacare proponents LOVE Canadian and UK government healthcare... How about a couple ...

Why are the Republicans screaming for tort reform?

A study published in 2005 by Tom Baker, a law professor at the University of Connecticut who studies insurance, found that after all costs, including legal fees, insurance costs and payouts, the cost of medical malpractice suits comes to less than one-half of 1 percent of health-care spending.

Oh, I see its just more rhetoric they use to oppose health care reform.

I have called the NC Lawyers Ref. and the State Bar. No one will take this case--stating they (lawyers) will not file a suit against another attorney out of professional courtesy. Who or where do I go from here?

When should a lawyer disclose a possible conflict of interest?

A year into a lawsuit, my lawyer tells me that his wife (my lawyer's wife) is a partner with opposing council. Interrogatories are over, depositions are over etc. I tried to find another lawyer but due to the amount of discovery completed, they don't want to take my case (medical malpractice). Is this legal malpractice on the part of my lawyer? Opposing council has not changed. My lawyer knew all along that his wife was ...

Isn't litigation the real problem with health care costs?

If lawyers were not allowed to take cases on speculation, there would be a lot less cases and a lot less litigiation. Some US areas have no doctors in some specialities because of the cost of malpractice insurance. A lot of countries require the plaintiff to put up a retainer fee before suing someone. Wouldn't that get rid of a lot of frivolous lawsuits and reduce health care costs?
